babies bite while breastfeeding for several reasons
-poor latch/ attachment
-too much milk flow
-low milk supply
-a cold or stuffy nose
-being full
-distraction or boredom
-teething
you can calmly say something such as “no biting” as you remove your breast
don’t pull your baby off too quickly. removing a baby that is still firmly latched can cause more injury to your nipple.
to ease the pain and protect your nipples, you can try:
-nipple cream, such as purified lanolin
-cold packs
-nursing on the unbitten side first — breastfeeding tends to be most vigorous at the beginning of a nursing session
-pain relievers that are safe for breastfeeding, such as paracetamol and ibuprofen can be taken
-using a pump to maintain your milk supply as you heal
biting is usually a temporary problem and babies quickly learn to stop.
a lactation consultant can help you find strategies to continue breastfeeding for as long as you and your baby wish. x
RashmiMom of a 11 yr old girl1 Year agoA. Teether can be given to your child and bite on that and since you are feeding the child I’m going to recommend you to use a nipple shield to protect your nipples because yes due to irritation in the thumb they want to bite onto something really hard so that is by menu feed they bite you also
