A. Benefits of Copper-T • It is inexpensive as a single insertion and works perfectly for years depending upon your choice. Hence, the maintenance doesn't require much of your time. One can still have a routine check done to see if the plastic threads are placed properly in the cervix which is useful to remove the IUD. • It is a very easy method which doesn't involve daily consumption of pills or uncomfortable wearing of condoms. One can have sex without any uncomfortable feeling or risk of pregnancy and can keep it for a long term. • Copper T can also be used as an immediate contraceptive method only if it is planted within 5-7 days of unprotected sex. This time is sufficient for the released copper ions to prevent implantation. Risks of Copper T There are also certain risks attached to using a Copper T, such as: • Menstruation problems: Copper T may increase your menstrual bleeding and cramps. • Eviction: There is a faint chance that the Copper T might get thrown out of the uterus into the vagina. This happens within 6 weeks of insertion so it is possible to check it out. This is more common amongst those who have had a recent child birth or a woman who has never been pregnant. Expulsion results in the uterus no longer be prevented from implantation and pregnancy. • No protection against STDs: Copper T doesn't protect against sexually transmitted diseases or infections. It is therefore advisable to have it inserted only when you are sure that your partner doesn't have multiple partners, and doesn't carry any STDs or you don't suffer from a history of pelvic infections and normally 2-3 days normal rest is recommended by doctor
