Is gripe water safe for one month old infant?

Anu VincentMom of a 9 yr 8 m old boy8 years agoA. Gripe water contains the following preservatives: bronopol, sodium methyl/propyl paraben, sodium benzoate. All of them are chemicals and are harmful for baby's health. Bronopol, for example, is used as a preservative in cosmetics! Methyl and propyl paraben you can find in fairness creams (like Fair and Lovely Multivitamins Cream) and shampoos (Biolage Matrix - just check the ingredients list). This definitely proves that gripe water ideally must not be consumed even by adults (not only babies)! This is the reason why I didn't give gripe water to my baby and wouldn't recommend anyone to do that. Long-term effects might be devastating. Why to risk baby's health and well-being?

The widespread belief is that gripe water is considered safe for babies,but you also need to know different aspects of using gripe water before you start giving it to your baby.Newborns and babies face gastric troubles, flatulence and bloating as milk is the main and only food for them. So if your baby is crying constantly due to gas and indigestion, you might need to take doctor’s advice on when to start gripe water for your baby.
