if a breastfeeding mother chews tobacco, what happens to the baby?

A. Hi... It’s better to stay away from tobacco during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tobacco quantity and time of consumption is very important if it’s unavoidable for a mother... How to minimize the risk your baby if you smoke or consume tobacco Ideally try stop smoking altogether, Slowly cut down and try smoking as less as possible. Don’t take tobacco immediately before or during breast-feeding it will inhibit let down and it’s dangerous to your baby. Smoke immediately after breast-feeding to cut down on the amount of nicotine in your milk during breast-feeding. Wait as long as possible between taking tobacco and nursing. It takes about 95 minutes for half of the nicotine to be eliminated from your body. Avoid using tobacco in the same room with your baby.
