A. If you’re experiencing persistent swelling and white milky discharge from the areola, especially after stopping breastfeeding, here are some steps and considerations: ### **1. **Consult Your Doctor:** - **Follow-Up:** Since you’ve already consulted your doctor and there is no lump, it’s important to follow up for further evaluation if symptoms persist. - **Additional Testing:** Consider asking your doctor about further tests or imaging (such as an ultrasound) to investigate the cause of the swelling and discharge. ### **2. **Manage Symptoms:** - **Warm Compresses:** Apply warm compresses to the affected area to help reduce swelling and discomfort. - **Supportive Bra:** Wear a well-fitting, supportive bra to reduce breast movement and provide comfort. ### **3. **Monitor Discharge:** - **Discharge Characteristics:** Keep track of the nature of the discharge (color, consistency) and any associated symptoms like pain or redness. - **Consult if Changes:** Report any changes in discharge or new symptoms to your doctor. ### **4. **Medication:** - **Pain Relief:** Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen can help with discomfort, but consult your doctor before using any medication. - **Medication Review:** If prescribed any medication or treatment previously, ensure you’re following the doctor’s advice correctly. ### **5. **Hormonal Changes:** - **Hormonal Imbalance:** Hormonal changes can sometimes cause discharge even after breastfeeding. Discuss this with your doctor to determine if hormonal treatments might be necessary. ### **6. **Avoid Self-Treatment:** - **Avoid Squeezing:** Do not squeeze or manipulate the area, as it may exacerbate the problem or cause further irritation. ### **7. **Consider Specialist Consultation:** - **Endocrinologist or Breast Specialist:** If symptoms persist and you’re concerned, consider consulting a specialist for further evaluation and treatment options. Persistent symptoms should be evaluated by a healthcare professional to rule out any underlying issues and to ensure appropriate management. Regular follow-up with your doctor will help address these symptoms effectively.
