Q.

I am bit worried . In my home , my wife and me usually speak Malayalam but my mom always use tamil. Since we (myself and wife)are going to office, during day time my mom take care my our baby. The concern here is my mom interact with baby in Tamil. My wife wanted my baby to learn Malayalam as first language and worried very much about the situation. I always tell my wife that , at this age baby can learn and understand multiple language but my wife is not getting convinced and it's really hurting me. I need some advice from the experts.. thanks

A. it is not a big problem for a child to learn both language's. let the baby learn tamil with his grandmother and in the evening you teach him malayalam. language should be of very less concern for you. keep it in mind that grandparents love grandchildren more than their own children. you have that advantage that you are not leaving the child with unknown person. many of my friends who are abroad are not able to teach their mother tongue as first language to their child.
