A. Yes you can make him stand or sit on your lap and play. But the actual playing with him for him to be active and develop his motor skills will need few toys or even the kitchen utensils will do. For eg you can play with a bowl and spoon also.Get a nice soft ball start making him hold it so that he gets a grip after few days you can play throw and catch. These are all for their overall development.You can even try with a play gym or few musical toys. There are so many like stacking cups,building blocks do a research see what fits you and get it for him to play.
