A. Hello....When a child is born crying at that time is important is not only a sign of life but is necessary for the development of her voice. Weeping is the only tool for her to make communication with others. This signifies that the child is dumb and hence deaf.
After one month of her birth a child who is not deaf and dumb makes different voices of crying for different causes. Her voices are different for asking milk or wetting of bed is there.
Cooing sounds
After three months a child who is not deaf and dumb starts cooing voices as of a pigeon. This voice depends upon the mental status of the child. This is first step towards speaking as this sound originates from the throat region.
Echo sounds
After four months a child who is not deaf and dumb develops improvement in her voice. She feels pleasure in having her voice originated from the throat and generating echo sounds.
Babbling sounds
After five months a child who is not deaf and dumb is able to recognize her family members. She tries to repeat their words. The mother is able to understand her words and tries to co relate the words with a sensible meaning.
Echolalia speech
A child who is not deaf and dumb is able to recognize the difference between echo of voice being generated from throat and tongue.
Jagron speech
At the age of eight or nine month a child who is not deaf and dumb is able to speak and create words of two alphabets according to her needs. She leaves a space between two words and tries to convey her feelings.
True speech
After twelve months a child who is not deaf and dumb develops the art of true speech. Besides using words from the established vocabulary she tries to coin her own words to convey her feelings.
If everything goes smoothly as above, it means child is not deaf and dumb. Deafness or dumbness of a child may be due to genetic causes, mother having measles, malaria, and chickenpox during pregnancy. Taking of some antibiotics by the mother during pregnancy makes the child deaf & dumb. A child remains silent and does not acknowledge sounding coming from surrounding indicates that the child may be deaf and dumb. Remember diagnosing a deaf& dumb child at right time is a right step towards treatment.
