A. Daily Totals. Daily dietary guidelines for a 6-year old eating 1,200 calories include 1 cup of fruit, 1.5 cups of vegetables, 4 ounces of grains, 3 ounces of protein and 2.5 cups of milk or yogurt. At 1,400 calories, boost fruits to 1.5 cups and add an extra ounce of grains and protein.
