A. Constipation in babies or toddlers can often be managed at home with simple changes. First, ensure your child is getting enough fluids—offer water regularly (if over 6 months) and continue breast or formula feeding. Hydration helps soften stools and makes them easier to pass. Next, add fiber-rich foods to your child's diet, such as pureed prunes, pears, apples, or whole grains, if they are old enough for solids. For toddlers, include vegetables, fruits, and whole grain cereals. Avoid constipating foods like excessive dairy, bananas, and processed items. Encourage active play and movement, which also supports healthy digestion. If constipation persists, gently massage your baby’s tummy in a clockwise motion or do bicycle leg exercises to stimulate bowel movement. For older toddlers, establish a regular toilet routine and make sitting on the potty a comfortable experience. If these methods don’t help or if your child is in pain, consult a pediatrician before giving any laxatives or medications.
