Q.

How long does it take for a fever to come down in infants? My boy is almost 5 months old, we took him to the hospital yesterday as he had fever and was very dull. Doctor prescribed medication including paracetamol. It has been 6 hours since I last gave him paracetamol but his fever is still on the higher side, goes up to 102. The doctor said it is because he has cold but I am concerned that his fever is not going down yet.

A. My son's fever is fluctuating but still not better. Also his soft soft on the anterior side is slightly swollen. When I touch it, it is still soft and I can literally feel his heart beating through it. Is that concerning? or is it common with fever when you have common cold and flu?

A. Fever is a response of the body to any kind of infection or any inflammatory process in body so you can give paracetamol in a dose of 15 mg/kg/dose as the first line treatment also this dose can be again repeated after every 5 to 6 hours if fever is repeating. and you can also dgfo cold sponging of the body if required
