A. the frequency of urination should be more than 5 or 6 times per day. the colour of the urine should be pale yellow to transparent. if the above two criteria is achieved then no need to worry but if it is less than kindly give more fluid food, water and juice to the child. please do not worryf if the child is not passing urine at night time.

A. A child not urinating for 12 hours, especially when experiencing severe diarrhea, is a serious concern and may indicate dehydration. Here’s what you need to know and do: ### Signs of Dehydration in Toddlers - **Infrequent Urination**: Less than usual urine output, dry diapers, or no urination for 6-8 hours. - **Dry Mouth and Tongue**: Lack of saliva, dry lips. - **Crying Without Tears**: Absence of tears when crying. - **Sunken Eyes**: Eyes appear sunken. - **Lethargy**: Unusual sleepiness, lack of energy. - **Irritability**: More fussiness than usual. - **Cool, Discolored Extremities**: Hands and feet may feel cool or appear blotchy. ### Immediate Steps to Take 1. **Hydration**: - **Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS)**: Use ORS, available at pharmacies, to help replenish lost fluids and electrolytes. Give small sips frequently. - **Breast Milk or Formula**: Continue breastfeeding or formula feeding if your child is still on these. - **Water and Clear Fluids**: Offer small amounts of water or clear fluids frequently. 2. **Diet**: - **Bland Foods**: Once vomiting and diarrhea subside, introduce bland foods like bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast (BRAT diet). - **Avoid Dairy and Sugary Foods**: These can sometimes worsen diarrhea. ### When to Seek Immediate Medical Attention - **No Urination for 12 Hours**: This is a critical sign of dehydration. - **Severe Diarrhea**: Persistent, severe diarrhea. - **High Fever**: A fever that does not go down with medication. - **Persistent Vomiting**: Inability to keep fluids down. - **Blood in Stools**: Blood or mucus in diarrhea. - **Lethargy or Unresponsiveness**: Signs of extreme fatigue or being unresponsive. - **Rapid Breathing or Heartbeat**: Signs of severe dehydration or other complications. ### Long-Term Care - **Monitor Hydration**: Ensure your child is drinking enough fluids. - **Hygiene**: Maintain good hygiene to prevent further infections. - **Follow Up**: Consult your pediatrician for a follow-up visit to ensure your child is recovering well and to address any underlying issues. Given that your child hasn't urinated for 12 hours, it is crucial to seek medical attention immediately. This situation requires prompt intervention to prevent severe dehydration and other complications.
