A. Finding red spots in your 4-month, 28-day-old baby’s stool can be concerning. It depends on the cause, but it’s important to observe other symptoms. Possible Causes of Red Spots in Stool 1️⃣ Mild Anal Fissure (Small Tear) – If your baby is straining during poop, small cracks in the anus may cause tiny red streaks. 2️⃣ Food Allergy (If Formula-fed or Breastfed) – Dairy or certain foods in your diet (if breastfeeding) may cause mild inflammation. 3️⃣ Infection – Some bacterial infections (like Salmonella) can cause red or mucus-filled stools. 4️⃣ Iron Supplements – If the baby is taking iron drops, stools can sometimes have a dark or red tint. 5️⃣ Intestinal Issues (Rare Cases) – If blood is mixed inside the stool (not just on the surface), it may need medical attention. What You Should Do? ✔ Observe the Next Few Poops – Check if red spots appear again. ✔ Check for Straining or Constipation – If poop is hard, massage the tummy and give extra breastfeeding. ✔ Look for Other Symptoms – Fever, vomiting, or excessive crying needs urgent care. ✔ If Breastfeeding, Review Your Diet – Avoid spicy foods or dairy for a few days. When to Visit a Doctor? ⚠ Repeated red spots in stool over the next 2-3 diaper changes. ⚠ Diarrhea, vomiting, or fever along with red spots. ⚠ Baby is not feeding well or looks weak. ⚠ If the blood is mixed inside the stool and not just on the surface. If the red spots appear only once and your baby is normal, it might be a small tear. But if it continues, it’s best to consult a pediatrician. Keep me updated!
