A. It’s common for children to reach developmental milestones at different times. While many babies begin walking between 9 to 15 months, some may take longer. Here are a few things to consider regarding your one-year-old not walking yet:
1. Developmental Variability:
Individual Differences: Some children may take longer to develop their walking skills due to individual differences in development. It's important to remember that every child is unique.
2. Other Milestones:
Crawling and Pulling Up: Consider whether your baby is crawling, pulling up to stand, or cruising along furniture. These skills often precede walking and indicate that she is developing strength and coordination.
3. Physical Assessment:
Leg Strength and Balance: Check if she can support her weight while standing or if she shows interest in walking while holding onto furniture or your hands.
4. Encouragement:
Safe Environment: Create a safe space for her to explore and practice standing and walking.
Supportive Shoes: If she is attempting to walk, ensure she has proper footwear or let her walk barefoot on safe surfaces to enhance her balance.
5. Consult a Pediatrician:
If your baby is not showing any interest in standing or cruising by 15 months or if there are other concerns about her development, it’s a good idea to consult your pediatrician. They can assess her growth and provide guidance on any further evaluation or support that might be needed.
6. Be Patient:
Children develop at their own pace. As long as your baby is meeting other developmental milestones and is healthy, she may just need a little more time to start walking.
If you have specific concerns or if there are other developmental delays, don’t hesitate to seek professional advice.
