Q.

Hi, I have an 8-month-old baby. She woke up at 9 a.m. I have a question: Should I give milk to my baby first, or should I give her food directly? After waking up, is it okay to give food without milk if she doesn't eat anything? Is it fine to give milk and then give lunch at 12:00 p.m., or should I give her food first?

A. Based on the interest of baby you may give the food. In general, after woke up we are habituated to take more liquid food intake and then solid. Our body organs getting dry without any intake during our sleeping time. Hence better start with a liquid food.

A. For your 8-month-old baby, the morning routine should be balanced between milk and solids to ensure proper nutrition. When your baby wakes up at 9 a.m., it’s good to offer breast milk or formula first. After a long night, babies might be thirsty and need hydration. Breast milk or formula provides essential nutrients and keeps them full. You can feed milk immediately after waking up or within 15–20 minutes. After about 30–45 minutes, you can introduce breakfast solids like mashed banana, suji upma, dal khichdi, or oats porridge. This gap allows digestion and prevents heaviness. If your baby is comfortable and active, it is okay to offer food directly, but starting with milk is generally recommended to meet nutritional needs. Observe your baby’s response. If she refuses milk in the morning, you can try giving solids first and then offer milk later. Every baby is different, so follow what works best for her!
