Q.

Hi, I felt my baby is suffering through fever and hence measured and found 98.8 F.. she is 1 month old.. is this fine or do i need to consult to a doctor nearby for the medicines?

A. axillary temperature more than 99, oral more than 100, rectal more than 100.4 degree Fahrenheit is fever. . just feed well. wear comfortable clothing. do sponging with water at normal temperature, not too cold. it helps in taking temperature down. do not give medications without prescriptions. consult your doctor in case of persistent fever, poor oral intake, excessively sleepy child. .

A. if your child is comfortable and accepting feeds and passing urine and gaining weight and if his body temperature is less than 100oF then its normal so you should not worry about this

A. You can do tepid sponging with room temperature water and then again check the temperature after some time. See if the temperature is rising again. If temperature is less than 98.5 , then it's fine, if not then you can go and consult a pediatrician.
