A. Say "no," and offer distractions. Try reading a book while holding your toddler on your lap. ... Make your breasts less available for nursing. Stop wearing nursing clothing such as nursing bras and tops with nursing slits. ... Let someone else take care of your toddler for a few days.Make your breasts less available for nursing. ... Shorten each breastfeeding session before stopping it completely. ... Postpone breastfeeding sessions. ... Substitute food, drinks, or comfort for breastfeeding. ... Distract your toddler. If you want to do this, it's best to wait until your milk supply is fully established. This can take around 6 to 8 weeks. You can start by replacing 1 of your baby's regular daily breastfeeds with a bottle (or, if your baby is over 6 months, a cup or beaker) of formula, instead.
