Q.

hi doctor, yesterday I delivered a male baby with weight 2.400kg. he is in NICU from the time of birth due to increase in respiratory rate above 90. but he is active. I can't feed now because he will aspirate as doctor said. will it be okay after 24 hrs? what all can be expected?

A. Normally, the newborn's respiratory rate is 30 to 60 breaths per minute. Tachypnea is defined as a respiratory rate greater than 60 breaths per minute.You might notice your newborn breathing fast, even while sleeping. Babies can also take long pauses between each breath or make noises while breathing. Most of these come down to a baby's physiology. Babies have smaller lungs, weaker muscles, and breathe mostly through their nose.
