A. yes there is always a possibility if the child has not been vaccinated for mumps mumps is a type of viral infection. it is due to infection in the parotid gland which is type of salivary gland. it is a self limiting illness and the child will improve in 4 to 7 days. it can involve one side or both sides of the jaw where parotid gland is present. symptomatic treatment is given in the form of paracetamol and warm compress can be done to decrease the swelling. please remain in contact with your doctor for treatment. it can be prevented by giving mmr vaccination.
