Q.
Hi... Doctor... My daughter suddenly got fever.... Why? We are in Chennai outskirts... Today she went to chennai Rail museum from school. When she returned to home she had fever 100 deg faranite... So I Put calpol surup. Don't know why suddenly she got while going she is good. Is that fever is due to heat waves or viral... Which medicine I should give......

Dr Sameer awadhiyaGuardian of 2 children3 years agoA. Fever is commonly seen in babies and mostly it's viral infection which is very common in children.
But if fever is high grade and persisting or assosiated with specific symptoms than other causes should also be ruled out .
Antipyretic like paracetamol or ibuprofen or mefenamic acid are usually given to reduce fever . Cold sponging with lukewarm water is also helpful .
Doctor consultatigon shouvld be done if symptoms like excessive irritabilbity dullness loss of appetite less urine output is there .

POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 7 m old boy3 years agoA. Fevers due to viruses can last for as little as two to three days and sometime as long as two weeks. A fever caused by a bacterial infection may continue until the child is treated with an antibiotic.
