Q.

Hi Doctor, I gave 1st influenza vaccine to my 15 months old son on 10th June but I missed the 2nd dose of the same which is to be given after one month. Now shall I give him the 2nd dose or drop it as I have MMR & Varicella due on 16th September? Kindly advise.

A. Influenza vaccine or the flu vaccine is basically a vaccine which protects against different strains of flu viruses including swine Flu virus which causes symptoms specially in children because of less immunity. Though it is not a mandatory vaccine but it should be given to every child to protect against different flu infection which is very common every year . this vaccine is given after 6 months of age and initiallyc two doses are given one month apart then every year single dose is required . It is not documented but still studies suggest that to some extent it may give partial protection against covid infection .
