A. Suitable for infants who have completed 9 months and have started semi solids. I prepare idli batter at home. .....ingredients for idli batter.... 1/2 cup white split urad daal 1 cup idli rice (In bangalore we get this rice, earlier my mom always used simple rice) 1 tsp Methi seeds,1 tbsp poha ........Method..... Mix all above ingredients and wash well. Using drinking water, soak these ingredients for 7-8 hours. I soaked at 1 in afternoon. After 7-8 hours grind these ingredients in grinder with minimum water. (All the water u used to soak will not be required for grinding, just use little water to help grinder mix ingredients well) Keep this batter overnight for fermentation. Some people add 1tsp salt to this for lifting the batter but since i wanted to prepare for baby as well i didn't add any salt.  ........Method prepare idli..... Next day when batter is ready, just mix it with light hand.Grease idli mould, por idli. Add 2 glass water in cooker, put the idli mould and steam (without cooker whistle) for 10 minutes.Soft simple idlis are ready 😄 Serve with coconut chutney/ toor daal. To prepare coconut chutney, i simply mixed shredded coconut with water and didn't add any spices like rai/kadhipatta. Plain simple coconut. ( In order to serve idli to your baby, you may have to mash it depending on how your baby is used to having it, babies with teeth can chew bigger chunks but one who don't have any teeth yet prefer mashed idli with chutney/daal.) .....points to note..... In all recipes I only use filtered boiled water for preparation and tap water/ filter water for cleaning.Always taste food before giving to your baby, it should taste right n temperature should be luke warm.Introduce new food only on your pediatrician's advice that baby is ready for it. Always give freshly made food to baby, avoid refrigerated food.
