A. Dear mum, breastfeeding should be stopped gradually for it to be less stressful for you as well as baby Ensure that the child eats enough; increase number of meals. Increase interval between breastfeeds. Drop one feed every day per week. Taper over 2-3 months. Stop morning breastfeeds first, then afternoon feeds after 2 - 3 weeks. Avoid situations that remind the baby of the breast: other family members and father can help with feeding and putting child to sleep. The nighttime feeding is usually the last to go. Make a bedtime routine not centered around breastfeeding. read a good book which may eventually become more important than a long session at the breast , rub child's back, sing lullaby. A lot of extra love and attention in other forms will be needed now. for example try spending spending time at playground, or anything your child will be distracted with and stimulated by.
