Q.

Hello dr. my baby is coughing sometimes. is it normal . what i need to do if he coughs frequently. some people suggest me honey but i refuse is it right not to give honey until 1 yr . my baby is 6 n half now ..

A. avoid honey it can be allergic cough Baby is having cold cough and fever then it can be due to viral infection you need to give him steam inhalation indirectly to times in the day and also keep him well hydrated .consult with your doctor near by who will examine the baby and guide you with appropriate medications in their proper dose. Viral fever can last from 3-5 days so you need to to give the prescribed medications for this duration at least and if it is persistent beyond you need to go for the investigation as per the advice of the doctor

A. Coughing: Do not give infants under 1 year honey; it will not help with symptoms and can cause a sickness called infant botulism. For children 1 year and older: Use honey, 2 to 5 mL, as needed. The honey thins the mucus and loosens the cough.
