Janani ViswanathanMom of 2 children2 years agoA. Breastmilk or formula will be sufficient to keep the baby hydrated until six months. Also breastmilk has 80% water content especially the first milk. So even with hot weather breastmilk will be sufficient to keep the baby well hydrated. Other reasons why water is not recommended before six months are, some babies will like the water taste and could resist to take breastmilk, Giving water to young babies puts them at risk of diarrhoea and malnutrition, Water may not be always clean and can cause the baby to have infections. if u r worried u can consult with your pediatrician once.

Until then exclusive breastfeeding or formula alone is good for baby (not even water) as their digestive system will be still sensitive and immature. WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding until six months.
