Q.

Hello Doctor, My daughter is 1 year old now & weight is 8.6 Kg. Yet I have not given her Cerelac. I used to feed her dal, rice, moong dal, fruits & few vegetables. Then also is it necessary to give Cerelac to my child?

A. Hi dear good afternoon Check if baby is gaining adequate weight. In the initial 3 months, babies put on about 1 kg each month. From 3-6 months, weight gain reduces to 1/2 kg/month. from 6-9 months, it becomes 1/3, and for 9-12 months, it settles to 1/4 kg. the birth weight doubles in the 4th month and triples when they reach 12 months of age. Rice one cup Moong dal half cup Dry roast rice for a while until it turns brown in color, next dry roast moong dal for few mins. Add 2-3 jeera and dry roast for few seconds Add 2-3 pepper corns and dry roast for few seconds. Add all these to a blender and make a fine powder and sieve and store in a container. This is the receipt for powder. Slowly after few weeks you can start adding every pulse a new week. After eight months you can dry roast nuts and add to this powder.
