Q.

Hello doctor my baby girl is 16 months old. last Saturday we got her vaccinated with PCV AND varicella vaccines. she has developed fever and I can see redness on her forehead and cheeks and below chin. is it because of vaccination??? kindly help

A. Fever is the reaction of the body towards any kind of infection or any inflammatory process in body and only when the temperature is above 99F it is considered as fever, so you can give paracetamol in a dose of 15 mg per kg body weight/dose as the first line treatment this dose can be again repeated after every 5 to 6 hours if again required and you can also do cold sponging of the body to reduce fever in between the doses ,but if it continues even thereafter you should consult your doctor for proper treatment. if the temperature is not controlled by paracetamol alone meftal p can be given in between as a single dose but only under medical guidance.these medicines will also work to relieve any pain ocr body ache to a good extent. but in case of infection in which the fever is associated with other problems also mit is recommended to get the clinical assessment done and get a proper treatment done by a doctor.
