Q.

Hello Doctor my 5 year old son is having cold and fever (sneezing continuously ).he had calpol 250 mg(6ml) at 8 am ,12 pm after temp raised to 102.7 given meftal p at 2.45 .Temp came down around 4pm to 100.5 again temp rise to 101.7 by 6pm was given calpol 650.since last 3 and half hr temp remained between 101 to 102 .its not coming down .planning to given meftal p(5ml) again by 11pm .please advice on futher medication,dossage.

A. Cold is most of the time because of viral illness and if the child is having recurrent running nose and nasal congestion it may be a part of allergic rhinitis also so it needs a proper examination. steam inhalation will be beneficial in both the cases along with decongehstant medicine like alex cold/ hatric 3/ gsinarest. As a part of viral illness there could be associated symptoms like cough and fever which needs treatment accordingly along with a proper hydration needs to be maintained .
