Lovleena MishraMom of 2 children4 years agoA. Eye discharge is common in newborns and is commonly due to a blocked tear duct. But if there are other symptoms like redness, swelling or tenderness then it can be eye infection or some other problem. Use a clean, soft and sterilised cloth or towel to dab the water. If the discharge is sticky, use some warm water to soak the cloth or towel and then gently wipe over and around your baby's eyes. Gently massage the inner lower corner of your baby's eyes. Massage your baby's nose a couple of times or hold a warm compress over his eyes for 1-2 seconds a couple of times a day. If still it does not help, take him to your paediatrician.
