Q.

Hello Doc...I am mother of a 8 months old baby boy...I have high uric acid levels...earlier i used to take Febutaz 40...but after I got pregnant my doc told me to stop intake of this medicine... but yesterday i got severe gout attack and having tremendous pain in my big toe...can i continue taking this medicine...will it affect my child as he breastfeeds..kindly suggest what can be done?

A. The drug does pass to the baby through the breast milk so until you get your appointment with your doctor I would advise you to take the medication but don’t breastfeed and express the milk for the next 48 hours at least.
