A. Bilateral perihilar or basilar interstitial infiltrates, which may progress to the ground-glass appearance of adult respiratory distress syndrome, are commonly seen in cases of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia. Unilateral or miliary infiltrates and cavitary lesions may be atypical presentations.
