Q.

dear doctor, my daughter is 5 months old and is having dry cough from last 3-4 days. i am giving her alex drops but no significant improvement is visible. please suggest what else can i do. #asktheexperts

A. Cough along with Cold most of the time is a viral illness and it needs supportive care along with proper hydration. you can give steam inhalation which is very useful . cough needs to be treated with anti allergic and expectorant bronchodilators or antitussives medicine which should be given onlyf after a proper evaluation by the doctor according to the type of cough. if fever is there paracetamol can be given to reduce thfe fever and the dose can be repeated after 6 hours again if required .

A. If I’m not mistaken the drops that you giving to the child is mostly for wet cough not for dry cough medicines are simply very different for a child to be given for dry cough so if you are self medicate it and avoid selfie medicating and kindly consult your concern to Dr for thisWrite Your Answer Here
