A. It’s strongly advised not to smoke while breastfeeding, as nicotine and other harmful chemicals in cigarettes can pass into breast milk, potentially affecting your baby’s development and health. Smoking can also reduce your milk supply. If you are unable to quit smoking, it is important to wait at least 2–3 hours after smoking before breastfeeding to minimize the amount of nicotine in your milk. However, the best option for both you and your baby’s health is to quit smoking entirely. If you're struggling with quitting, seek support from a healthcare provider to help create a safe plan.
