A. You should wait until your baby has reached her first birthday, before giving cow's milk as a main drink. It is fine to use small amounts of cow's milk in cooking from six months onwards. Curd, paneer and mild cheese are also fine to feed your baby from six months.Cows' milk can be used in cooking or mixed with food from around 6 months of age, but should not be given as a drink until your baby is 1 year old. Full-fat dairy products, such as pasteurised cheese and plain yoghurt or fromage frais, can be given from around 6 months of age.Beyond digestion. Also, cow's milk contains high concentrations of protein and minerals, which can stress a newborn's immature kidneys and cause severe illness at times of heat stress, fever, or diarrhea. In addition, cow's milk lacks the proper amounts of iron, vitamin C, and other nutrients that infants need.

A. You should give your baby only breast milk or iron-fortified formula during the first 12 months of life, not cow's milk. Starting at age 6 months, you may add solid foods to your baby's diet. ... Your baby's system cannot handle the high levels of these nutrients in cow's milk: Protein. Sodium. Potassium.
