A. You can start with peeled and boiled apple puree Mashed banana [ripe] Coconut water Mashed soft papaya Buttermilk Finger foods like soft bread cubes cheese paneer You can give soft mashed khichidi made of dal rice and vegetable and ghee. Also avoid using packed foods like cerelac .. make homemade gruels and porridges atleast you will know what you are giving your baby. Once near the 1 year mark you can start giving what you have at home just modify the cooking process i.e remove some amount of cooked dal or veggies before you add chilly and spices. Also start salt and honey only after 1 year. Continue milk intake and give new food in between feeds do not skip a feed initially as the baby will consume only small quantities. A 3 day rule means starting a new food and giving it for 3 days preferably at the same time. To check for any food allergies and to increase acceptability.

A. soft, mashed and hygienically prepared foods like dal-rice with vegetables, veg khichadi, porridges, kheer, soft mashed fruits, curds. avoid water thin foods like thin dals and rice water, soups and fruit juices as they do not provide enough nutrition and fill stomach. add ghee/oil on top of food for making it energy dense and squeeze some lemon where possible to increase iron absorption. have variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables even green leafy vegetables in child's diet start with 3-4 tsp and then about half katori per feed about 3 feeds per day. introduce variety slowly 3-6 days for 1-2 foods continue to breastfeed.

A. After six months first start with one meal of solid food per day. Start with few spoons and gradually increase the amount every day. Replace one feed with solid food, then slowly after some days start replacing another feed with solid food. After one or two months the baby can be having three meals per day. After feeding solids give few spoons of water. You can breastfeed or formula feed in between meals and during night time. Dal ka pani, Fruit purees like apples, pear, papaya, mashed banana, vegetable puree like carrots, pumpkin, peas, mashed sweet potato or potatoes, pulses, porridge like ragi or oats, veg rice, veg kichdi, RASAM rice, home made cereals. Start with one food at a time and wait for two to three days to see if it suits your baby and then start something new again. Always follow this two day gap rule between introducing new foods. Also avoid using sugar and salt until the baby is one year old. The babies get the required sugar and salt from all the solid food items , breastmilk or formula they intake. They don't need any additional salt or sugar to be added.
