Q.

can be maple syrup given to babies? is it helpful for weight gaining for the baby?

A. It can cause botulisn in infants below 1 year of age. Avoid as far as possible. give 3 meals and at least 2-3 snacks a day Include energy dense foods like ghee jaggery daliya banana sweet potatoes full cream milk and yoghurt Add dry fruit mix to milk kheer good physical activity boosts appetite

A. If you want to give it only for gaining weight then you can try different home made foods instead of giving a store bought/artificially made syrup/foods. Do the following for babies diet. You may have to make some foods in mashed or semi solid form considering your babys age. Offer banana,chikoo and avocados un mashed form. Givee stuffed parathas made of paneer or cheese or potatoes. Make ragi or daliya porridge in milk(milk to be given only after 1 year..till then use water) add ghee to dal rice, khichadi or roti. Give different milk products like paneer, curd and also cheese slices once in while. Include all types of vegetables and green leafy veggies in diet. Make fruit smoothies and add powdered dry fruits to it. Once in a while give a handful of kaju and kismish as evening snacks (for elder kids who can chew properly) If the child is not taking vegetables then add it to parathas, rice or dal. Offer fruit juices and veg soups made at home.
