ExpertDr.Rasika ThosarPaediatric Intensivist8 years agoA. starting with moong dal is good as it is easy to digest. you can dry roast other dals with rice and store as home made cerelac. also introduce fruits, boiled veggies in your baby's diet. also continue breastfeeding. banana, apple, avoid citrus fruits. potato, sweet potato, carrot, bottle gourd, red pumpkin all boiled and mashed. avoid sugar and salt. as kidneys are immature, sodium load may not be tolerated, sugars lead to tendency of having sweet foods only, instead give all food groups. also it reduces risk of future diseases weaning needs patience as babies tend to refuse feeds other than breast milk. start with few spoons of dal water , rice water. give it at a time when baby is not crying for hunger. introduce it 1 to 2 hours after you breastfeed, baby will first get a texture of food then accept it. slowly increase quantity, introduce mashed banana , which is easily accepted by many babies.
