#Askthexperts My son is 20 months old,he only speaks limited words like Mumma,Papa,Jai he also speaks some random words/sounds like he is trying to say something to us by pointing fingers. my questions are : when should we expect clear words. how to train him. is this normal for this age of kids not to speak much before 2 years of age? Thanks!

Regarding Speech Baby usually start mono syllable by 6 to 7 months of age then by syllable words come by 9 to 10 months of age then by 12 to 14 months of age baby say two to three words followed by jargon speech at 15-16 months . child can start saying simple sentences by two years of age . just make the child comfortable and do more interaction with the child so that he can learn to speak sengftences properly. if the speech does not comes even by three years of age you need to consult your doctor for a proper assessment of the child .
