POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy1 Year agoA. Single Umbilical Artery (SUA) is a condition in which the umbilical cord has only one artery instead of the usual two. Normally, the umbilical cord contains three blood vessels: two arteries and one vein. The arteries carry deoxygenated blood and waste from the baby to the placenta, while the vein carries oxygenated blood and nutrients from the placenta to the baby.
In cases of SUA, one of the arteries is missing. This can sometimes be associated with other congenital abnormalities, but many babies with SUA are born healthy. Regular monitoring during pregnancy is essential to ensure the baby's development is on track.
