Nutrition plays a vital role in the overall growth and development of a baby. Hence as a parent it's our biggest responsibility to provide good Nutrition.
Right from gestation upto 5 years of age most of the brain development in babies takes place. After that it's not that there is no development but mostly it is maintained after that.
Right from the weaning period you must give lots of home made foods. Till completion of six months breastmilk is best for the baby. After that start wirh basic weaning food.
At the age of one year you can give a plate of food fir him to eat by himself. They will make a mess bur it's OK. They will learn to handle. Give the same food as adults but in smaller portions.
Babies learn most by observation. Hence it becomes a greater responsibility of the parent to exhibit healthy habits.
By 2 years of age you can give 4 meals in a day. Remember that you need not give meals every 2 hours. Stomach emptying time us atleast around 3 hours. Hence give meals accordingly.
For breakfast you can give eggs, oats, milk and bread if required. For lunch and dinner it can vegetables and dal and rice/ chapati. Snack can be a fruit in the evening. Dinner can be like lunch itself. Sometimes you can also give upma or dosa also for lunch or dinner. Remember that the presentation of the food is equally important.
As the children grow older they will need more protein also. Some good foods for brain development of the child are walnuts, almonds, egg, fish, dairy products.
Remember that too much milk is not required at all. Babies should always be given a balanced meal.
