#asktheexperts Should Vitamin D drops to be continued after 1 year?

A. yes sunlight is important for the generation of vitamin d in the body. to generate proper vitamin d the child should go in sunlight between 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. for at least 10 minutes daily . if the child is not able to follow this then vitamin d supplements needs to be given. after 1 year of age there is two options of giving vitamin d to the child. it would be advisable to discuss this with your personal pediatrician. when you are giving drops of 800 units you have to give 0.8 ml per day or you can shift to vitamin d shots of 60000 unit which can be given 5 ml single dose and has to be repeated evdery three months for the child.

A. It should be used up till the age of one year and after that you can quit using it which is what is going to be beneficial as of now you need to continue after the age of one year you should consult consult your doctor before you continue with it
