A. At 7 months and 2 weeks, it’s completely normal for your son not to be speaking single words yet. Most babies start babbling and experimenting with sounds around this age, but actual words usually come between 9 to 12 months or later. Here’s what you can do to encourage his speech development: Talk to him often: Describe what you’re doing, name objects, and respond to his sounds to encourage communication. Read books together: Choose simple, colorful picture books and point to objects while naming them. Sing songs and nursery rhymes: Repetitive sounds and rhythms help babies learn language patterns. Encourage babbling: Imitate his sounds and pause to let him respond. Limit screen time and focus on interactive communication. Ensure he hears well: If you suspect any hearing issues, consult your pediatrician. If by 12 months he is still not making sounds or showing interest in communication, or if you have any concerns, discuss them with your pediatrician or a speech specialist for guidance.
