A. It’s common for an 11-month-old to wake up for milk during the night, but there are steps you can try to help him sleep through the night for longer periods: 1. Increase Calorie Intake During the Day: Ensure your baby is getting enough calories during the day, especially at dinner. You can offer a mix of healthy fats (like avocado, full-fat yogurt), proteins, and complex carbohydrates (such as oats or sweet potatoes) to keep him full longer. 2. Bedtime Snack: Offer a small snack, like a piece of fruit or some baby cereal, 30-45 minutes before bedtime to help curb hunger through the night. 3. Gradually Wean Night Feeds: If he wakes up once or twice for formula, try reducing the amount of formula in the bottle gradually over a few nights. This will help him adjust and reduce his reliance on night feeding. 4. Water Instead of Milk: Some parents try offering water instead of milk when the baby wakes at night. This can help discourage night wakings over time. 5. Ensure a Relaxing Sleep Routine: Make sure he has a calming bedtime routine—like a bath, quiet time, and gentle music—so he associates these activities with sleeping longer. 6. Sleep Environment: Ensure the sleep environment is conducive to uninterrupted sleep: a dark, quiet, and comfortable room, with no distractions or unnecessary awakenings. Be patient, as some babies take a little longer to drop night feeds, but these strategies might help him sleep continuously for longer stretches.
