A. For an 8-month-old baby with a runny nose and sneezing, the following steps can help relieve symptoms and make your baby more comfortable: 1. Maintain Nasal Hygiene Saline Nasal Drops: Use saline nasal drops to help clear mucus from your baby's nostrils. These are safe for babies and can help thin the mucus. Nasal Aspirator: Use a bulb syringe or nasal aspirator to gently suction out mucus from your baby's nostrils. Be careful not to insert it too deeply. 2. Keep Baby Hydrated Adequate Fluids: Ensure your baby is drinking plenty of fluids, such as breast milk or formula, which helps keep mucus thin and eases congestion. 3. Use a Humidifier Cool-Mist Humidifier: Place a cool-mist humidifier in your baby's room to keep the air moist. This can help soothe nasal passages and reduce congestion. 4. Elevate Head During Sleep Sleeping Position: Elevate the head of your baby's crib mattress slightly to help with drainage and reduce nasal congestion. Make sure to follow safe sleep guidelines. 5. Ensure Comfort Dress Appropriately: Keep your baby comfortable by dressing them in light layers and maintaining a comfortable room temperature. 6. Avoid Irritants Smoke and Strong Odors: Keep your baby away from smoke, strong odors, and other environmental irritants that can worsen congestion. 7. Monitor Symptoms Track Symptoms: Keep an eye on your baby's symptoms and overall condition. If the runny nose persists for more than a week or is accompanied by other symptoms such as fever, a significant decrease in appetite, or difficulty breathing, consult your pediatrician. When to Consult a Pediatrician Persistent Symptoms: If the runny nose and sneezing do not improve with home treatment or if your baby develops a high fever, has trouble breathing, or shows other concerning symptoms, contact your pediatrician. Other Symptoms: Consult your doctor if you notice any signs of infection or if your baby seems unusually irritable or unwell. These steps should help alleviate your baby's symptoms and provide relief from the runny nose and sneezing.
