#asktheexperts hi, My 4 month old baby has cold and running nose. He is unable to sleep properly. I have been using saline nasal spray. what else can be done at home as the weather here is fluctuating from very hot to rains.

Dr Sameer awadhiyaGuardian of 2 children3 years agoA. cough and cold could be infective or allergic in cause.give steam to relieve nasal congestion which is of great help and nasoclear drops can also be used in nose multiple times.you can also give sinarest drops . cough syrup or nebulization should be given according to the type of cough and only under the guidance of your pediatrician .self medication is not recommended. if the cough is productive give asthakind-ls. Usually due to the symptoms if the child is not showing interest in having food, give only simple home-made preparations as req; cuired, can give certain fruits like apple, papaya etc. ,child will start to eat as symptoms get resolved. Due to seasonal changes or due to repeated exposure to the infective agent if the child is catching cold and cough repeatedly you need to develop good immunity by giving proper balanced diet and multi -vitamin supplements under medical guidance.

SandhyaMom of a 9 yr old girl3 years agoA. Hi, you can give steam once in a day. Take a cloth folded and use it like a pillow make sure the back and head is resting on that so that baby can breathe comfortably. Add a pinch of turmeric to milk have it and then breastfeed your baby. Continue cold medicine as suggested by your paediatrician.
