Q.

#asktheexperts Hi Doctor, My son is 16 months old now, I would like to know if we can give deworming medicine to him as he doesn't eat anything. Is it due to teething he isn't eating?

A. For your 16-month-old son, deworming medication is generally safe, but it's best to consult with your pediatrician before giving it. If your child isn’t eating well, it could be due to various reasons, including teething, illness, or a picky eating phase. Teething often causes discomfort, which can reduce appetite, but it’s unlikely to be the sole reason for a significant loss of appetite. Deworming medicines are typically recommended every 6 months for young children, but it's important to make sure that a lack of appetite is not caused by other health concerns like infections or nutritional deficiencies. Your pediatrician can help determine if deworming is necessary and provide guidance on how to manage his appetite and overall health.
