Q.

#asktheexperts hello My baby girl is having fever from 3 days. At night she is having high fever of 102 and 103. We are doing cold sponging giving calpol and meftal suspension. Today our dr also give Augmentation syrup. We have given 1 dose now but still she has fever of 99.8. Fever is on and off. Please suggest if the treatment is right and what else I can do?

A. Hello, your baby girl is 16 months old and she is having a fever upto 102 degrees so give her plenty of water and syrup ibugesic plus 4 ml three times a day

A. Fever occur as reaction in the body towards any kind of infection or any inflammatory process in body and only when the temperature is above 99F it is considered as fever, so you can give paracetamol in a dose of 15 mg/kg/dose as the first line treatment this dose can be again repeated after every 5 to 6 hours if again required and you can also do cold sponging of the body to reduce fever in between the doses ,but if it continues even thereafter you should consult your doctor for proper treatment. if the temperature is not controlled by paracetamol alone meftal p can be given in between as a single dose but only under medical guidance.these medicines will also work to relieve any pain or body ache to a good extent. but in case of infection in which the fever is associated with otheur problems also it is recommended to get the clinical assessment dadone and get a proper treatment done by a doctor.
