Q.

#asktheexperts Hello Doctor, my baby was admitted to the hospital from 30th September to 2nd October due to severe cough and cold. During her hospital stay, saline/IV was given through her right hand. After the IV was removed and we were discharged, she developed some boils/blister-like lesions on her right hand, especially around and above the IV site. Since then, the lesions have been increasing rapidly. I’m attaching photos of her hand for you to see. Could you please check the photos and let me know what this could be and what we should do? Is this possibly related to the IV/saline, or could it be an infection or skin reaction? Please advise us on the treatment and whether she needs to be examined immediately.

A. This is looking like some kind of an infection now I cannot be certain whether it is because of the IV that they have used or it could be associated with some side-effects of the medicines that has been given to the child so please confirm with your doctor and visit your paediatrician again
