A. It’s not uncommon for some children to start speaking later than others, as language development can vary widely from child to child. At 18 months, many babies can say a few words, but some may still be focusing on other developmental milestones like walking or exploring their environment. Encourage speech development by talking to your child frequently, reading books together, and singing rhymes or songs. Point to objects and name them, encouraging your baby to imitate you. Avoid comparing your child to others, as each child develops at their own pace. If your child is not attempting to say any words, doesn’t respond to their name, or seems to have difficulty understanding simple instructions, it’s a good idea to consult a pediatrician or a speech-language therapist. They can evaluate your child’s hearing and overall development to rule out any underlying issues and provide guidance or early intervention if needed.
