#asktheexperts doctor my baby is 1.9 years old. Suffering in constipation every day. Crying while passing stool. Hard stools. Can I give duphalac oral syrup to him. Please answer.

A. Yes, but talk to your doctor first. Duphalac (lactulose) is a syrup that pulls water into the poop to make it softer and easier to pass. It is generally safe for toddlers, but a doctor should tell you the exact amount (usually 5–10 ml) for your baby's weight.

Constipation is usually a very common problem seen in many where the most important causative factor is decrease intake fiber rich dijet along with ljesser fluid intake. some food like junk food mostly containing maida and oily food can aggravate such condition. here the diet modification should be tried first followed by medications like lactulose milk of magnesia and muout powder.
